With the small squad improving daily, the South Winn wrestling team traveled to Jesup on Tuesday, Dec. 17, and finished 2-2 in dual competition.

Facing an even smaller Belle Plaine squad, Luke Massman (120) and Ben Meyer (160) were the only two Warriors to take the mat, both winning by falls. SW shut out Belle Plaine, 60-0, to take the team victory.

Lady Warriors move to 4-1 in UIC

The Lady Warriors have been on fire as of late in UIC competition, shooting the Kee Hawks down, 49-36, at home on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

It was a tight contest between SW and Kee as Payton Poshusta paved the way in scoring seven of the Lady Warriors’ first-quarter points. A pair of Kee High charity tosses with nine seconds remaining knotted the score, 9-9.

SW boys remain undefeated in UIC action

The Warriors split last week on the court, but remained one of the only two undefeated teams in the UIC with a 73-53 win over Kee High on Tuesday. Saturday’s nonconference tussle with with New Hampton was a bit lopsided as South Winn had an unusual amount of turnovers in their passing game to fall, 65-33.

To the editor:

I would just like to say that after reading the article about a Casey’s General Store that I was disappointed. It says how good it would be for the town and that it would employ 25 to 30 people and add additional property tax.

What about all the businesses, families, and employees it would hurt that are already here? All these places and employees already pay property taxes and spend money in town and send their children to school here. Many businesses who give to help our schools, fire department, hospitals, etc.

UIU basketball swept in Winona


 

 

The Upper Iowa Women’s and Men’s basketball teams suffered losses Saturday, Dec. 21, at Winona State.

The women lost, 60-44, while the men lost 78-68, despite outscoring the Warriors by six in the second half.

In the womens’ game, Whitney Kieffer led the Peacocks with 17 points. Lindsay Carroll added 11 points.

The women had a rough night from the field, shooting just 28 percent.

UIU is now 3-3 in the NSIC and 4-6 overall.

The men dug themselves a deep hole in the first half, trailing 49-33 at the break.

Senior Joey Woods was the only Peacock in double figures with 18 points.

 The UIU men enter the Holiday break at 2-4 in the NSIC and 4-8 overall.
